When Traveling Abroad...

Those of you who know me know I love to travel. I think I've taken seven out-of-state trips this year. But those aren't as fun as the out-of-country trips. One of the keys to a successful travel abroad is attempting to speak the language of the country you're visiting. I had my oh-so-handy Lonely Planet guide to Italian when I visited Italy last summer, and while I'm sure I butchered far more vocabulary than I pronounced correctly (as if my American accent alone wasn't enough to give away my lack of fluency), the locals seemed to appreciate my attempts to speak their language. Someday, it would be nice to actually be fluent in a foreign language (all those years of French in high school didn't amount to much without the opportunity to practice), but until then, maybe these tips will get me through my next travels abroad:

Love the video clip! It's so true. Tiffany and I did not say we were Canadian in France. Maybe if we had of we would have gotten directions in the subway instead of a frown. LOL
